The 6 essential items required for checking electrical appliances

This post summarises the 6 essential items required for checking electrical appliances for safety before making them available for sale.

1.    The one page PAT testing aide-memoire. This is available from First Stop Safety to anyone attending their PAT courses or studying the Distance Learning CD, This is available on this link here. It's a good idea to laminate this and always have it to hand when checking electrical appliances.

2.    The "reseller equipment test record" where all the test results are recorded. This is also available from First Stop Safety and can be downloaded from this link.

3.   Screw driver to inspect the inside of plugs and check fuses.

4.    Some 3 Amp fuses in case some plugs are fitted with 13 Amp fuses but have power rating of less than 700W. In this case these fuses will have to be changed to 3 Amp fuses.

5.    Plug wiring tape to show customers how to wire plugs.

6.    Simple PASS/FAIL PAT tester. This is essentail for checking that the built-in safety protection is working.

Summary:
Checking electrical items for safety is very straightforward once you have these 6 items to hand.
